Marcus Fenix, A God of War
“The Bigger They Are…” is a short single-player level for Gears of War,
created with the Gears of War Editor. Set
in the city of Ephyra in the late-afternoon, “The Bigger They Are…” consists of a boss fight with a large Brumak. Designed to feel like the God of War
boss battles, Marcus uses quicktime events to augment his battle against the enormous monster.
When building this level, I wanted to show that designers can create new, engaging gameplay without having to rely on unique assets. Each quicktime event is similar to an action the player performs regularly throughout the game. For example, jumping from the Brumak and attaching a grenade requires the use of the Jump and Melee buttons.
